Small structures like sheds, decks and fences usually don’t require one. Larger structures may – we’ll tell you before we schedule.
For most of what we take down — a garden shed, a deck, a run of fencing, a hot tub, an above-ground pool — Maryland does not require a contractor licence for demolition and haul-away, and small accessory structures usually do not need a permit either. Larger structures can be a different matter, and rules vary between Calvert, Charles and St. Mary’s. Demolition and haul-away is quoted as one job, so the permit question matters before we schedule.

The part people underestimate is the debris. Taking a structure down is quick; getting several tons of timber, panel and hardware off the property is the real work, and it is where a cheap quote usually turns expensive.

Not everything that comes down is waste. Usable lumber, metal, and fixtures worth saving get separated out where it is practical, and scrap metal goes for recycling rather than burial.
